Drive to Survive Withdrawal?

Here’s What to Watch Next

After binge-watching Drive to Survive Season 7 and anxiously awaiting Season 8, we’ve pulled together some compelling motorsport documentaries to help tide you over. There’s no question that the success of Drive to Survive has brought a massive surge of interest to Formula 1, building a global fan base hungry for more behind-the-scenes drama. Fortunately, both Netflix and Amazon Prime have some exciting offerings ready to fill the gap. Here’s a look at what’s currently streaming or coming soon.

📺 Netflix:

➤ "The Seat"

This new documentary tells the story of Mercedes’ latest F1 signing, teen sensation Andrea Kimi Antonelli. Now streaming on Netflix, the film traces Antonelli’s journey from his early karting days to his debut in Formula 1. While Antonelli is the central figure, a significant part of the film focuses on Mercedes F1 and Team Principal Toto Wolff - particularly how the team is moving forward after Lewis Hamilton’s dramatic move to Ferrari. One of the most intriguing aspects is the contrast between Wolff’s management style and the famously tough approach of Red Bull’s Helmut Marko.

➤ "F1: The Academy"

Also landing on Netflix this week is F1: The Academy, a series spotlighting the all-female F1 Academy Championship. The show follows seven of the Academy’s events, showcasing fierce competition, as the cars are run by top-tier F2 and F3 teams. The series is led by former driver Susie Wolff and emphasizes increasing female representation in all aspects of motorsport. It features notable figures such as HAAS F1’s first female race engineer, Laura Müller, and Red Bull’s longtime Strategy Engineer, Hannah Schmitz. With growing interest in F2 and F3, F1: The Academy is shaping up to be a fan favorite, especially with younger viewers - think of it as a junior Drive to Survive.

🎥 Amazon Prime Video:

➤ "Formula E: The Driver"

Though not directly related to F1, this 4-part series dives deep into the all-electric Formula E racing world. With behind-the-scenes access and a focus on several standout drivers, the show reveals just how competitive and cutthroat the series has become. What once were short races due to battery limitations have evolved into more satisfying long, strategic battles. This is a must-watch for motorsport fans who are curious about where top-tier driving talent goes beyond F1’s 20 coveted seats.

➤ "American Thunder: NASCAR to Le Mans"

Premiering June 12th, this Amazon Prime documentary chronicles Hendrick Motorsports’ audacious project: taking a modified NASCAR stock car to compete in the grueling 24 Hours of Le Mans. While the car wasn’t eligible for a traditional class, it raced under the experimental “Garage 56” category. The film gives viewers an inside look at Hendrick’s elite facility and follows the driver lineup of 2009 F1 World Champion Jenson Button, endurance legend Mike Rockenfeller and NASCAR icon Jimmie Johnson. The story is captivating – and, yes, the roar of that car will absolutely mesmerize you.

Final Thoughts

If you’ve finished Drive to Survive – Season 7, and are craving more high-octane drama, these recent and upcoming releases are perfect viewing. From rising F1 talent to electric racing and American muscle at Le Mans, there’s something for every motorsport fan.

Enjoy the ride.
