Super Bowl LX: Something for Everyone

Roman Numerals, Bad Bunny & the Ultimate Game-Day Snack

The Super Bowl is more than just a football game, it’s a cultural event, a musical showcase and a culinary celebration. With Super Bowl LX just around the corner, let’s dive into the unique traditions, a headline-making performer and a snack recipe that’ll make your watch party unforgettable.

Do You Know Your Roman Numerals? History & Key Ones to Remember

If you saw “Super Bowl LX” and had to pause, don’t worry, you’re not alone. Roman numerals have been a Super Bowl tradition since the very first game in 1967, retroactively called Super Bowl I. Why does the NFL stick with these ancient symbols instead of plain numbers?

Roman numerals give the Super Bowl a sense of grandeur and timelessness. While the NFL could have easily used “Super Bowl 60,” the Roman numeral “LX” carries a historical weight that makes the event feel monumental. It’s also a clever way to maintain consistency year after year and avoid confusion with other events.

Roman numerals originated in ancient Rome around 500 BCE and were widely used throughout the Roman Empire for trade, monuments and official documents. Even after the empire fell, these numerals survived and are still used today in clocks, book chapters and, of course, the Super Bowl.

The main numerals to know:

• I = 1

• V = 5

• X = 10

• L = 50

• C = 100

• D = 500

• M = 1000

Roman numerals are additive and sometimes subtractive: you combine letters to make numbers, or place a smaller numeral before a larger one to indicate subtraction. For example:

• LX = 50 + 10 = 60

• IV = 5 − 1 = 4

• XC = 100 − 10 = 90

Bad Bunny: 6X Grammy Winner & Controversy

Puerto Rican superstar Bad Bunny is set to headline the halftime show at Super Bowl LX and the buzz is already electric. Known for blending reggaeton, Latin trap and high-energy performances, he promises a show full of hits, elaborate choreography and bold fashion.

Bad Bunny’s accolades speak for themselves. He now has 6 Grammy Awards to his name, including Album of the Year, Best Global Music Performance and Best Música Urbana Album (awarded on Sunday).

Bad Bunny’s real name is Benito Antonio Martinez Ocasio. He is from Puerto Rico. Puerto Rico is an unincorporated territory of the U.S. with its own constitution, government and local laws; however, U.S. federal law applies. Residents cannot vote in U.S. presidential elections, but they elect a non-voting representative to the U.S. Congress. Puerto Ricans are U.S. citizens

The announcement of his Super Bowl show hasn’t been without controversy. Critics debate whether Bad Bunny’s predominantly Spanish-language setlist will resonate with the traditionally mainstream Super Bowl audience. Some worry it may alienate viewers expecting pop-heavy, English-language performances. Others argue that it’s about time the Super Bowl embraces global sounds, offering a chance to celebrate cultural diversity on one of the world’s biggest stages.

“Si no entendiste lo que acabo de decir, tienes cuatro meses para aprender.” (Bad Bunny)

Regardless of the debate, one thing is clear: Bad Bunny is shaking things up and fans everywhere are ready for the spectacle.

Game-Day Snack: Chunky Guacamole

No Super Bowl watch party is complete without snacks. This Chunky Guacamole recipe from our COO’s wife, Susan Rattenbury, is fresh, flavorful, super easy to make and perfect for dipping while cheering on your team.

A typical serving of guacamole (2 tbsp.) has 50-55 calories. It is a nutrient-packed, heart-healthy snack that is rich in fiber, vitamins, minerals and antioxidants … and it is delicious!

Ingredients:

• 1 medium tomato, finely diced (about 1 cup). Cherry or grape tomatoes are also a good choice

• 1/2 small red onion or shallot, finely diced (about 3 tbsp.)

• 1/2 cup coarsely chopped fresh cilantro

• 3 tbsp. fresh lime juice (or juice of 2 limes)

• 1/4 tsp. crushed red pepper flakes (or finely chopped fresh chili pepper according to taste, protect your hands from capsaicin when chopping)

• Kosher salt (about 1 tsp.)

• 2 large Haas avocados (about 1 lb.), cut into 1/2-inch cubes

Instructions:

1. In a medium bowl, toss the tomatoes with onion, cilantro, lime juice, red pepper flakes and salt. Let sit for about 5 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.

2. Add the diced avocado and gently mash it into the tomato mixture with a fork.

3. Serve immediately with veggies sticks, baked tortilla chips.

Tip: For maximum freshness, serve the guacamole right after mixing. If needed, prep the tomato, onion, cilantro, and lime mixture ahead of time and add the avocado just before serving to prevent browning. Or, if you must, make the guacamole no more than 1 day ahead of time, put it in a bowl and place plastic wrap or a beeswax wrap directly on top of it (like a skin) – this will minimize oxidation; refrigerate.
